For non-South Sudan citizens, it is required to carry documents at all times that prove legal entry into the country. Failure to do so may result in deportation.
Visas are issued upon arrival in the country or at the South Sudan Embassy.
Those traveling from overseas can process their visas from the nearest South Sudan Embassy in their home countries if they are visiting for business or tourism. They must follow all the required guidelines and provide the necessary documents.
U.S. citizens usually obtain their visas from Washington, D.C., where the South Sudan Embassy is located.
When traveling, they are encouraged to register with the U.S. Department of State through the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP).
Registration can be submitted in person or by email.

Note: If a traveler lives in a country that does not have a South Sudanese Embassy, they must contact the embassy in the nearest country.
Types of Visas Issued
- Transit Visas: These are issued to travelers who are passing through South Sudan on their way to another country. They are valid for a maximum of 72 hours.
- Single-Entry Visas: These are issued to individuals who need a visa to enter South Sudan, mainly for business or tourism.
- Multiple-Entry Visas: These are issued based on the purpose of the visit and the traveler’s request.
- Diplomatic and Government Official Visas: These are issued to individuals on official government duties, including passport holders, diplomats, and government officials. An official letter from the appropriate authority must be provided to obtain this visa.
